After founding Hopewell Hospice Services as an Incorporated Association (IA13351) in 1994, Deirdre Hanna and Rev. Dr Ian Mavor, OAM also recognised the need to help children deal with many types of grief and loss. Hopewell Hospice Services Inc. is a Registered Charity (1194), and its principal activities include Hopewell Hospice, Paradise Kids, Clare College of Transformative Education and the Living Well Centre.
Hopewell Hospice provides accommodation and physical, emotional and spiritual care for adults with terminal illnesses, as well as support for their families. With excellent holistic palliative care in a home-style setting complemented by beautiful gardens and landscaping, people can live out their final days with grace, dignity and meaning - so important to them and to loved ones.
Through Paradise Kids, Hopewell’s services have been extended to children, youths and their parents in dealing with grief, loss and illness.
Since 1996, when the first Paradise Kids group was organised, various programs have been developed. Many children, youths and adults have participated in Grief and Loss Support Groups, Boys Groups and Early Childhood Play Groups as well as having the benefit of personal counselling. In addition, the Illness Support Program works intensively with children with a terminal or long-term illness and their families.
