The Hopewell Centre is opening its new 'Simply Divine' Cafe and Bookshop in the new Paradise Kids House in Allied Drive, Arundel. We would like to hear from anyone interested in volunteering. We are also asking for donations of good quality second hand books. Please call Eric, Simply Divine Manager on 0419 727 371 and any books could be dropped at Paradise Kids, 11 Dunkirk Close, Arundel.
At Paradise Kids the buddy's role is to support children to explore, understand, and express safely their feelings about their loss. Our program uses a mixture of story, art, music, meditation, discussion, movement, guided imagery, and breathing.
You can help kids get over their grief by becoming a Buddy. All you need to do is to complete the Grief Counselling Course with a Focus on Children and Grief offered by Clare College each first and third term in the school year.
Course dates to be confirmed.
Paradise Kids is a Queensland founded charity that has been operating support groups for children, youth and their parents suffering grief and loss for over ten years. This is an exciting opportunity as Paradise Kids opened their first Sydney program in April 2007 and the first Boys' program in May 2007.
As a trained volunteer, you will be directly acting as a 'buddy' with a child - in a group setting with approximately 10 - 12 children and their buddies. While there is a group leader facilitating the activities of the program, it is mostly an opportunity to connect one-on-one with your assigned child and to assist them with their grief process.
While the children's group is meeting, a Support Group led by a trained facilitator is provided for parents.
